The world's first awards for social media in the built environment
The Be2awards - London, June 2012
Since June 2008, the social media advocacy community, Be2camp, has been helping the architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and related industries think about and deploy Web 2.0 tools and techniques. The world's first awards for social media in the built environment, the 2011 Be2Awards were presented in London in February 2011.
From the 'unconference' folk, the 'unawards'...
The Be2Awards are about sharing information and helping construction people connect online, so we:
- 'crowdsource' the award nominations (and maybe even an award category or two!)
- encourage online voting across the award categories, so that winners can say their award reflects the 'wisdom of the crowd' (or at least "their crowd")
- host some of construction and technology's most thoughtful speakers at a TEDx-style event - Be2TALKs - throughout the Be2Awards presentations
- demonstrate our Web 2.0 enthusiasm (and get a worldwide audience) by live-streaming the event to the web via video, live-blogging and Twitter
- deliver some surprises along the way - the 2011 cake was good! - and
- didn't insist on black-ties and cocktail dresses
